Overview: Michlifen Golf and Country Club is a Jack Nicklaus Signature course in Ifrane, high in Morocco’s Middle Atlas. At roughly 1,650 metres above sea level, the 18-hole parkland layout is framed by cedar and evergreen-oak forest, mountain air and the alpine character of the resort town. The setting gives the course a rare identity for North Africa: elevated tees, wooded corridors and changing views replace the palm-and-desert image associated with many Moroccan golf destinations. The directory lists a par of 72 and 7,325 yards, and the long back tees make the mountain setting a meaningful part of club selection and trajectory.
History: The course opened in 2018 as the first Jack Nicklaus-designed course in North Africa. Nicklaus Design worked with the landscape around Ifrane rather than trying to flatten or disguise it, creating a layout intended to sit naturally among the forests and mountain clearings. The adjoining resort and golf academy developed the property as a four-season destination, with the course’s high elevation and preserved surroundings giving it a character unlike the coastal and desert courses farther west and south.
Did You Know? Michlifen’s altitude is one of its defining golf facts. The course is located around 1,650 metres above sea level, near cedar forests and the upland landscapes of the Middle Atlas. The resort describes it as the first Jack Nicklaus Signature course in North Africa, a distinction that links its architectural story to its unusual mountain environment.
