Overview: The Pines is the more wooded expression of golf at Michaywe, a public community near Gaylord built around the Au Sable River country of northern Michigan. Its fairways are described by the operator as secluded, with white birch and pine defining the corridors and giving the round a quieter rhythm than the more open resort courses nearby. Seven tee positions let the course change scale substantially, from a 4,237-yard forward route to a layout of more than 7,000 yards. The appeal is the combination of forest atmosphere and choice, with golfers able to match the round to their game.
History: The Pines belongs to Michaywe’s early-1970s development and is associated with Michigan designer Don Childs. The community later became part of the wider Gaylord golf landscape, where The Pines and The Lakes provide two distinct 18-hole experiences within the same destination. Current operator material focuses on the course’s natural setting and tee flexibility rather than assigning a single championship specification, so this profile keeps the history attached to the documented design period and present routing instead of borrowing figures from another Michaywe nine.
Did You Know? The Pines can stretch across a range of more than 2,700 yards between its shortest and longest published tee routes. That is a striking amount of flexibility for a course whose identity is built around secluded woodland fairways.
