Overview: Memanbetsu Golf Course is a hill layout in Ozora, north of Lake Abashiri and within easy reach of Memanbetsu Airport. The current Prince guide gives the course a back-tee total of 6,801 yards for an 18-hole par-72 round, with the natural contours used to create a sequence of changing lies and strategic approaches. The surrounding views are a major part of the identity: on clear days the course looks toward Lake Abashiri and the mountain ranges associated with Akan and Shiretoko. Fairways and rough use bluegrass that helps the ball sit up, while the bentgrass greens provide a contrasting putting surface.
History: The course opened in 2001 and is credited to Robert C. Walker. It now operates as part of the Prince Hotels golf portfolio, with current official course material and an active seasonal operation. That resort connection makes Memanbetsu practical for a regional golf trip, but the course itself remains grounded in its Hokkaido setting rather than relying on a built resort spectacle.
Did You Know? The official guide singles out the third, fourteenth and seventeenth holes as places where the course's strategy becomes especially visible. The club also describes the bluegrass fairways as producing a buoyant lie, while the bent greens add a different kind of precision at the finish. The combination makes Memanbetsu approachable in appearance without removing the need to judge wind, elevation and the shape of the next shot.
