Overview: Winding through a dramatic, rugged landscape of forests, rocky ridges, and deep inlets near Bergen, Meland Golfklubb is widely considered one of Norway's most challenging and visually spectacular coastal courses. Designed by British architect Robert "Bob" Hunt, the layout features massive elevation changes, narrow fairways carved out of the wilderness, and large, undulating greens. Highly exposed to the North Sea fjords, the course requires ultimate strategic discipline and precise ball flight control.
History: Opened in 1999, Meland was carved out of a rugged, coastal forest parcel, requiring substantial engineering to integrate the dramatic granite rock formations and deep water inlets. The course quickly achieved international fame for its extreme difficulty and raw, wilderness beauty, establishing itself as a bucket-list destination for adventurous golfers visiting Scandinavia.
Did You Know? The course is renowned for its relentless challenge, with several holes playing directly over deep fjord inlets where players must carry their ball over the swirling Baltic waters to reach the safe target fairways.
