Overview: Meadowbrook Golf Course is a public David Gill design at the foot of the Black Hills in Rapid City. The 18-hole parkland layout plays to par 72 and 7,054 yards from the longest directory markers, with Rapid Creek crossing the property and mature cottonwood, spruce, pine and apple trees shaping the corridors. More than 60 bunkers protect the large, undulating greens, so the course asks for both position and control on the approaches. The setting is close to the city but remains quiet and spacious, with the Black Hills rising beyond the tree line.
History: Meadowbrook was developed as Rapid City's golf needs grew, replacing the limitations of an earlier nine-hole facility. David Gill and his associates created the current championship course in the mid-1970s, with the exact course record dating its opening to 1977. Its reputation grew through tournament golf, including the 1984 U.S. Women's Public Links Championship and later national college events. The course has continued to serve as a city golf facility while retaining the mature landscape and traditional parkland structure that define its identity.
Did You Know? Rapid Creek comes into play on five of the eighteen holes. That gives Meadowbrook a recurring water strategy without turning the course into a series of forced carries, and it helps connect the parkland layout to the natural drainage of the Rapid City valley.
