Overview: Meadow Club sits in a picturesque valley at the foot of Mount Tamalpais in Marin County. As the first golf course designed by Alister MacKenzie in North America, the routing is celebrated for its strategic layout, featuring expansive fairways, complex green structures, and beautiful panoramic mountain views. The layout emphasizes positioning off the tee to secure favorable angles into the heavily contoured putting surfaces.
History: Opened in 1927, the course was built in collaboration with architect Robert Hunter. Over the decades, many of the original characteristics were lost to tree growth and routine maintenance. Architect Mike DeVries completed a meticulous restoration in 2005, removing hundreds of trees and rebuilding MacKenzie's signature multi-lobed bunkering.
Did You Know? Alister MacKenzie utilized this project to showcase his ideas on camouflage and landscape integration before going on to design Cypress Point and Augusta National. The course is also home to a thriving population of black-tailed deer and wild turkeys that wander the fairways. These local animals are a common sight for players, often grazing calmly along the edges of the greens during late afternoon rounds.
