Overview: McArthur's BackYard is a private 18-hole course in Hobe Sound routed through interior wetlands and native South Florida vegetation. Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw used the existing wetland and sand features to create a low-profile course whose character comes from connected natural spaces rather than heavy ornamental landscaping.
History: The BackYard opened in 2023 as McArthur's second 18-hole course. The course was built through more than 500 acres of wetland and sandy ground, with the design team developing bridges and carefully drained playing islands around the site's existing features.
Did You Know? The routing includes bridges between holes 2 and 3 and between holes 4 and 5, while the third tee is set on a deck projecting from a bridge. Those details make the wetland setting part of the architecture rather than scenery at the edge of the course.
