Overview: Maroochy River Golf Club is the Sunshine Coast course created for golfers who want a full destination round without leaving the Maroochy district. The current Bli Bli layout uses broad fairways, water, native vegetation and open Queensland light to create a modern resort-style experience. Graham Marsh's design gives the holes room to move, but the preferred line is rarely the same as the widest line. Approach angles and the position of hazards determine whether the second shot feels comfortable.
History: The club's roots are at Horton Park, which was founded in 1950 and opened its original 18-hole course in 1956. After the former site was sold, the club relocated to Maroochy River at Bli Bli, with the new course operating from the mid-2010s. The move preserved the club's identity while giving it a larger setting and a stronger stay-and-play connection with the Sunshine Coast.
Did You Know? Maroochy River is best understood as both a golf club and a destination facility. The new site was chosen to support a more expansive course experience, so the contrast between open landing areas and water-framed holes is a deliberate part of the design. The move from Horton Park to Bli Bli is the defining chapter of the club's modern story: an established local club gained a larger setting without losing its Sunshine Coast roots.
