Overview: On Vancouver’s south side, Marine Drive Golf Club occupies a private course property between the city and the Fraser River. A. V. Macan designed the original routing with greenskeeper Bob Wood, using the property’s uplands, wooded edges, drainage dike and low-lying ground to create a course that is both walkable and strategically varied. The current club describes accuracy and smart shot-making as central to the experience. Its public-facing materials do not publish one stable par and full yardage, so those fields are left blank.
History: Marine Drive was established in 1922 after Dr. Brett Anderson and A. E. Philp acquired a former farm on the Fraser River. The original farm buildings became the clubhouse and support spaces, while Macan’s plan used the natural features of the property. The club has hosted Canadian, British Columbia, Pacific Northwest and world amateur championships. Its long competition history sits alongside its continuing private-club identity.
Did You Know? Several holes use the old farm and drainage landscape in a very literal way. Macan’s original plan placed six holes in the upland and wooded areas east and west of the clubhouse, while five tees used the dike. That combination of farm ground, river edge and engineered drainage is what gives Marine Drive its distinctive Vancouver routing.
