Overview: Margate Country Club is a coastal parkland course on the western side of the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast, where the land rises above the holiday town and opens toward views of the Indian Ocean. The 18-hole routing combines tree-lined corridors, water and several shorter holes, including a picturesque par-three signature that rewards precision more than force. Wildlife and changing coastal light add atmosphere to a course that feels both local and distinctly seaside.
History: The club has grown alongside Margate’s development as a South Coast holiday centre. A significant course upgrade took place in 1995 under Peter Matkovich, refining the layout and strengthening its position as a full regional golf destination. The course remains a community club as well as a travel stop, with its identity tied to the town, the ocean-facing hills and the network of South Coast courses nearby.
Did You Know? The signature par three is memorable because the hazard is not only the distance. Trees, water and the angle into the putting surface combine to make a short hole feel exacting, especially when the coastal breeze changes the club required from one day to the next.
