Overview: Western Australia’s wine country is home to this 18-hole par-72 parkland layout in Western Australia’s wine country. The current layout measures about 6,092 metres from the back markers and is framed by mature trees, native vegetation and the gently rolling ground of the South West. It offers a quieter alternative to the region’s coastal links while still fitting naturally into a golf trip built around Margaret River’s beaches, wineries and restaurants. The fairways are approachable, but the small changes in elevation and the need to position for tree-lined greens keep the round engaging.
History: The club’s first course dates to 1928, while the current course officially opened on 12 June 1955. Dr N. Robertson designed the layout, which continued to develop through later changes: the fairways reached their final form in 1964 and the course received championship designation in 1966. That sequence gives Margaret River a useful distinction between the club’s origin and the modern 18-hole course visitors play today.
Did You Know? Margaret River’s golf course opened before the area became internationally known for wine tourism. The club’s 1928 beginnings and 1955 current layout make it part of the region’s older recreational history, not simply an amenity added during the later tourism boom.
