Overview: Mantaraya Golf Club is an 18-hole, par-72 course in Farallón on Panama’s Pacific coast. Randall Thompson of American Golf Design is credited with the layout, which runs through the country’s dry-arc landscape near the Royal Decameron resort. The current association listing gives 7,087 yards, while the course’s character comes from more than distance: coastal breeze, rolling fairways, bermudagrass playing surfaces, lakes and bunkers all shape the round. The setting shifts between open ground and planted corridors, giving the course a clear resort-coast identity without turning it into a purely seaside layout.
History: Mantarraya was developed as part of the Royal Decameron property. Contemporary Panamanian reporting from March 2004 records the first nine holes being put into play while construction continued on the remaining nine; the same report credits Randall Thompson and American Golf. Tourism Panama records the full course as finished in February 2005, so 2005 is used for the completed 18-hole routing rather than the first-nine milestone. The course’s current association listing confirms the stable identity: 18 holes, par 72, 7,087 yards and Thompson as designer.
Did You Know? Mantarraya’s early construction was staged in two parts: the first nine holes were already being played in March 2004, while the remaining nine were still under construction. The completed course therefore has a documented transition from a nine-hole opening phase to the full 18-hole layout recorded today.
