Overview: North of Melbourne, Mandalay offers a public par-72 round over 18 holes at Beveridge, north of Melbourne. Peter Thomson and Ross Perrett shaped flat grazing land into a contoured links-style layout with generous fairways, strategic bunkering and sculpted greens. The course is designed to welcome a wide range of players, but its width is not without purpose: choosing the right side of a fairway can open a much better angle into the next green. Its location makes it a convenient northern Melbourne round as well as a destination for golfers following Thomson’s Australian work.
History: The course was developed as the centrepiece of the Club Mandalay community and opened in 2015. Its design continues the Thomson Perrett tradition of building a strong visual identity from relatively open land, using contours and planted features to make the property feel more mature than its age. The club’s current materials present Mandalay as a complete championship course with golf, dining and community facilities around it.
Did You Know? Mandalay’s architect Peter Thomson won the Open Championship five times before becoming one of Australia’s most influential course designers. The official club describes the layout as a continuation of the Thomson Perrett legacy, linking a young Melbourne course to a much broader architectural history.
