Overview: Soranuma is Makomanai Country Club's longer 18-hole routing, extending to 7,073 yards from the black tees at par 72. The course lies in the wooded southern edge of Sapporo, near the Shikotsu-Toya National Park landscape, and uses the surrounding hills to make the long scorecard feel varied rather than repetitive. Four published tee levels allow the same route to be approached at different distances without losing its broad, forested identity.
History: Makomanai opened on 15 June 1969 and the facility is attributed to Nobukatsu Marumo. Soranuma is one of the club's two complete courses, alongside Moiwa, and the current operator maintains separate hole guides for each. That distinction matters for visitors: the directory names are not alternate greens of one route, but two 18-hole courses with different yardage, ratings and shot patterns.
Did You Know? Soranuma's back-tee card includes a 571-yard sixth, a 540-yard twelfth and a 457-yard eighteenth. The numbers explain the course's reputation for scale, but the order is equally important. Long par fives are interspersed with demanding par fours and short holes, so the round keeps asking whether to press for distance or protect the next position.
