Overview: Maketewah Country Club is a classic Cincinnati parkland course whose ravines, rolling ground and elevated greens give the layout a strong sense of movement. The course is tied to Tom Bendelow’s early routing and Donald Ross’s later work, with the championship tees reported at about 6,855 yards and par 71.
History: The club moved to its present property in 1911, where Bendelow developed the first modern 18-hole layout. Donald Ross rebuilt much of the course in 1919. After additional land was purchased, Ross and Walter Hatch finalized the later routing in 1929.
Did You Know? Only two of Bendelow’s original hole routings were reused in the Ross course. That makes Maketewah a particularly interesting example of an old course whose identity combines two major architectural eras.
