Overview: Makena Golf Club North is a private south-Maui routing across volcanic ground, with ocean views, elevation changes and the island of Molokini visible offshore. Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed the 6,914-yard par-72 course around the dry coastal topography, using lava edges and changes in level to shape the lines into the greens.
History: The North Course opened in 1993 as part of a former 36-hole resort complex. After the resort’s later transition, the property was acquired and repositioned as the private Makena Golf and Beach Club, with the North Course retained as the active golf routing.
Did You Know? Makena’s course land sits between the ocean and the lower slopes of Haleakalā. The view toward Molokini is a reminder that the course is on the island’s southern volcanic shoulder, not on the flatter resort plain farther north.
