Overview: Mae Jo Golf Club & Resort presents 18 holes at par 72 north of Chiang Mai, close to Mae Jo University and the agricultural landscape around San Sai. Thai architect Seni Thirawat designed the layout, which opened in 2004 and is listed at 6,730 yards. The course has relatively gentle elevation changes, broad maintained fairways and a resort setting with accommodation, spa and leisure facilities. It is a comfortable entry point to Chiang Mai golf, but the scorecard still rewards sensible positioning and accurate iron play.
History: Mae Jo was developed as a modern resort course at a time when Chiang Mai was becoming a stronger international golf destination. The current tourism record describes it as a newer course with an uncomplicated, playable routing, while preserving the local designer’s role in shaping the layout. Its location behind Mae Jo University gives the property a distinctive relationship with northern Thailand’s cultivated countryside, rather than the dense urban setting found around some Bangkok courses.
Did You Know? Mae Jo is close enough to Chiang Mai’s city market to work as a day round, but the course’s visual setting is agricultural and spacious. The surrounding orchards, open land and mountain light give the fairways a softer northern character than the dramatic highland courses farther from the city.
