Overview: Situated in the scenic Magliasina valley near Lake Lugano in the southern Swiss canton of Ticino, Lugano Golf Club is a classic 18-hole parkland course originally designed by Donald Harradine. The layout winds over relatively flat terrain bordered by mature oak, birch, and pine trees, with the Magliasina River coming into play on multiple holes. The course features tight, tree-lined fairways and small, heavily defended green complexes that demand strategic shot placement and disciplined iron play.
History: Founded in 1923, Lugano is one of the oldest golf clubs in Switzerland. Harradine modernized the original routing in 1970 to meet contemporary standards, and architect Peter Harradine further updated the bunkering and greens in the 1990s. The club has maintained its traditional, classic parkland character, serving as a historic center for competitive golf in Ticino.
Did You Know? The course is famous for its intricate water hazards, as the Magliasina River meanders through the property and must be crossed or avoided on 11 of the 18 holes, making water navigation the defining characteristic of a successful round here.
