Overview: Los Canales de Plottier is an 18-hole Nicklaus Design course in Plottier, Neuquén, laid across the floodplain of the Río Limay in Argentina's Alto Valle. The course sits within a private residential and resort development, with water shaping the landscape through man-made creeks and lakes that accompany the fairways. From the back markers it stretches to about 7,250 yards and plays as a par 72. The setting is more open and riverine than a forested mountain course, with broad ground, long views and a strategic need to choose how much of the water and sand to challenge.
History: Los Canales de Plottier formed part of a wider urban and recreational project whose stated roots reach back to an early twentieth-century family and regional history. Nicklaus Design created the 18-hole course, and the project was open for play in 2011. The development places the golf course at the center of a planned community beside the Limay, with housing plots, recreational areas and a future-facing resort concept arranged around the fairways. Its identity is therefore tied to both golf architecture and the transformation of former river land into a managed residential landscape.
Did You Know? Top100GolfCourses describes Los Canales as the third Nicklaus Design course to debut in Argentina, after Chapelco and Nordelta. The 7th is listed at about 620 yards from the back markers, while the 18th finishes beside a lake with sand guarding the home green. Those holes show how the course uses scale and water to build its closing sequence without relying on mountain elevation.
