Overview: Lopesan Meloneras Golf is an 18-hole coastal course on Gran Canaria's southern shore, designed by Ron Kirby to divide the round between contrasting landscapes. The opening nine moves through palms and the foothills, where the land rises and the holes feel more sheltered. The closing nine turns toward the Atlantic, bringing sea views, coastal wind and a stronger sense of horizon into the strategy. The course is not a pure seaside links, but its design uses the boundary between mountain and ocean to create two distinct halves. Fairway position, wind direction and approach distance matter more as the round moves from the protected inland section toward the shore.
History: Meloneras Golf was inaugurated in June 2006 and quickly became one of the principal courses in the Maspalomas area. Ron Kirby designed the layout as an 18-hole par-71 course that would make use of both the elevated land inland and the coastline below. The club later hosted the 2007 Spanish PGA Championship, an event that placed the course within the competitive history of Canary Islands golf. Its design has remained recognizable because the mountain-to-sea sequence is built into the routing itself.
Did You Know? The course is often described as two landscapes in one round: nine holes toward the mountains and palms, followed by nine holes that open toward the ocean. That transition is more than a scenic change. It alters the wind, the visual scale and the preferred club choices as the player approaches the final holes.
