Overview: Lonnie Poole Golf Course is a public Arnold Palmer Design Group course on NC State's Centennial Campus in Raleigh. The layout combines broad fairways, elevation changes, strategic bunkering and views toward the Raleigh skyline. It is also an active university facility, serving golfers, collegiate teams and turfgrass and professional-golf education.
History: The course opened in 2009 after Arnold Palmer helped launch the project. Its namesake, NC State graduate Lonnie Poole, contributed major support for the facility, and NC State later added the Carol Johnson Poole Clubhouse. The course has hosted NCAA regional competition since opening.
Did You Know? Lonnie Poole is named for a 1959 NC State graduate who supported the course's construction. The university describes the facility as serving varsity golf, PGA management education and the turfgrass program, not just ordinary public play.
