Overview: Lone Tree Golf Course is a public 18-hole parkland layout in Antioch, set near Mount Diablo State Park and the San Joaquin River Delta. The directory’s #1 R/Green label is retained as a routing identifier, while the current operator describes the course itself as par 72, with a back-tee distance of 6,427 yards. Mature red oaks, cypress, eucalyptus and ponderosa pine shape the fairways, and the course balances generous landing areas with strategically placed bunkers and demanding green complexes.
History: The course dates to 1934, when it opened as a nine-hole layout on the open hillsides beside Mount Diablo. The official history says nine more holes were added in the early 1950s, turning Lone Tree into the 18-hole course known today. In 1990, most green complexes were rebuilt as sand-based greens. The present course therefore combines an older Antioch foundation with later work on its putting surfaces and playing character.
Did You Know? The two smallest greens on the current course are the original greens on holes 12 and 15. That bit of continuity is more than a historical footnote: both holes reward accuracy and make a well-positioned approach more valuable than simply hitting the ball as far as possible. Lone Tree also hosts the Antioch City Championship, an event tied to local golfing history and Northern California amateur play.
