Overview: Lochmoor Club is a private Grosse Pointe Woods course whose original routing was laid out by John H. Sweeney with Walter Travis. Tree-lined fairways, mature hardwoods and carefully shaped greens give the layout a traditional Detroit-area character.
History: The club’s story began in 1917 when 136 acres of farmland were acquired for a new country club. The original 18 holes opened for play in June 1918; Charles H. Alison refined the course in the early 1920s, and Paul Albanese later worked from a restoration master plan.
Did You Know? Lochmoor’s founders came from Detroit’s Indian Village and Grosse Pointe communities, linking the young club to the city’s early social and industrial history.
