Overview: Loblolly is a private Hobe Sound course by Pete and P.B. Dye, laid over sandy ground with dune-like ridges, pine and native vegetation. The design uses firm landforms and strategic angles rather than a heavy water feature program, giving the course a heathland character within South Florida.
History: The course opened in 1988 and has been refined over time, including a recent restoration program by Jim Urbina intended to recover the original design character. The club’s setting and scale allow the routing to retain a strong sense of separation from surrounding development.
Did You Know? The excavated sand was used to build ridges of roughly forty feet across the property. Those man-made landforms are now part of the course’s natural-looking visual structure and help create the elevation changes seen on holes such as the thirteenth.
