Overview: Llandrindod Wells is an undulating upland course on the slopes above the Mid Wales spa town. The moorland setting supplies elevation changes, open views and natural golfing hazards, while the fast, true greens and largely bunkerless character make approach angles and the surrounding contours important. The course looks across the town and its lake towards the valleys, giving the round a strong sense of place as well as a varied 18-hole test.
History: The course began in 1889 when the Pump House Hotel owners commissioned Alexander Patrick to lay out nine holes on the common. Harry Vardon was then called in to design the layout. The club was formed in March 1906, and the current course was officially opened on 18 May 1907. The opening programme included matches involving James Braid, Harry Vardon and J.H. Taylor.
Did You Know? Llandrindod's official opening brought three leading figures of golf's Great Triumvirate to the same day's programme: James Braid, Harry Vardon and J.H. Taylor. That gathering gives the course an unusually direct connection with the leading professional golfers who shaped early twentieth-century British golf.
