Overview: Situated on the Falsterbo Peninsula in southwestern Sweden, the 1-18 loop at Ljunghusen Golfklubb is a historic heathland course designed by Douglas Brasier. The layout plays over a sandy, low-lying coastal spit, featuring narrow fairways framed by native heather, gorse, and tidal lagoons. Exposed to constant sea winds from the Baltic, the course requires precise ball-striking and low ball-flight control to navigate the firm, links-like turf.
History: Founded in 1932, Ljunghusen is one of Sweden's oldest golf clubs, with Brasier designing the original holes and Peter Nordwall providing modern updates in subsequent decades. The course is routed through a protected nature reserve, requiring strict environmental management to preserve the delicate coastal heathland habitat.
Did You Know? Ljunghusen was the first golf course in Sweden to be built inside a protected Baltic wetland sanctuary. Several holes play directly alongside sensitive saltwater lagoons that serve as a critical resting stop for thousands of migratory birds during their autumn journeys.
