Overview: Across the wetlands of Pawleys Island, Willbrook Plantation Golf Club is a Dan Maples design with 18 holes, routed across the wetlands and waterways of two former Carolina rice plantations. The par-72 layout reaches 6,722 yards from the back tees and combines live oaks, marsh, water and Champion Bermuda greens with a playable sequence of five tee areas. It is a Lowcountry course where the landscape supplies as much of the visual identity as the bunkers and fairways.
History: Willbrook opened in 1988 and became part of the Litchfield Beach and Golf Resort group, alongside Litchfield Country Club and Pawleys Plantation. Maples called the course one of his best, and its plantation setting has been used in course stories and television features. The layout's history is inseparable from the old rice fields, whose dikes and waterways still influence the routing.
Did You Know? The first tee sits beside a dike that once controlled water levels for the rice plantations. The sixth is a 147-yard par three with an island green, while the 15th uses wetlands and a large live oak to make the closing stretch a study in Lowcountry water management and golf strategy.
