Overview: Linville Ridge is a private mountain course high in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains. George Cobb’s original routing and Bobby Weed’s later updates follow the natural contours, dense vegetation and exposed rock of the site. The par-72 course reaches about 6,746 yards from the back tees, with sloped greens and dramatic elevation changes defining the challenge.
History: The course opened in 1983 as part of the Linville Ridge mountain community. In 2008, Bobby Weed completed a major redesign and updated the bunkers and other features while retaining Cobb’s underlying routing. The club’s own history describes the development as a mountaintop project begun in the early 1980s.
Did You Know? Linville Ridge claims the highest golf course east of the Mississippi River, with the thirteenth hole reaching 4,949 feet. The par-three sixteenth drops roughly 110 feet, an elevation change comparable to an eleven-story building.
