Overview: The Links at Lighthouse Sound is a public coastal course in Bishopville, Maryland, moving between Assawoman Bay, tidal marsh, wooded ground and the St. Martin's River. Arthur Hills used the water and wetlands to create long views and strong strategic lines, with the front and back nines connected by a long bridge. The course's open sections can be wind-sensitive, while the wooded holes ask for more positional play.
History: Lighthouse Sound opened in 2000 on a large former farm and development property. The project reduced the planned residential footprint and protected more than 700 acres of marsh and woodland, using bridges and drainage systems to route golf around sensitive wetlands.
Did You Know? The course has a bridge nearly 1,500 feet long, described by the operator as the longest in the United States. The second and third holes share a double green of about 16,000 square feet beside Assawoman Bay.
