Overview: The Old Course at Les Bordes is a 7,044-yard, par-72 layout set through the Sologne Forest in the Loire Valley. Robert von Hagge's design uses a tree-lined setting and a connected system of lakes to make water part of the strategy rather than a decorative backdrop. The course asks for commitment on carries, careful management around the lake edges and enough precision to keep the next shot open. Its scale is generous in places, but the visual options can be deceptive: a bold line may shorten a hole while bringing a severe penalty into play, and a conservative line can leave a demanding approach. The result is a modern forest course with a strong identity, where shot-making and course management matter from the first tee to the final green.
History: The Old Course was completed in 1987 as Robert von Hagge's original Les Bordes design. The estate later expanded into a 46-hole golf destination, adding Gil Hanse's New Course in 2021 and the ten-hole, par-30 Wild Piglet in 2020. Those additions are separate routings, but they help explain why the Old Course profile must be kept distinct from the wider Les Bordes estate. The Old remains the tree-lined lake course described by the estate itself, with its original architecture continuing to define the experience. This is private golf, so the public-facing information is intentionally focused on the exact Old Course identity rather than general estate access.
Did You Know? The Wild Piglet short course sits alongside the two 18-hole courses and has ten par-three holes, but the Old Course has its own unusual signature: the lake complex is woven into the routing so that water influences both the line of play and the emotional reading of several holes.
