Overview: Ussher’s Creek is the south-side 18-hole course at Legends on the Niagara, and its character is distinctly parkland. Thomas McBroom’s routing moves through stands of deciduous trees, wetland hazards and knee-high fescue rough, with the natural vegetation doing as much to define the shot values as the bunkers and greens. It is a course that rewards keeping the ball in the intended corridors, because the edges quickly become part of the challenge.
History: The course was created as one of the two full championship routings at Niagara Parks’ Legends on the Niagara facility, which also includes Douglas Carrick’s Battlefield and the separate nine-hole Chippawa course. The site was conceived as a public destination with an academy, practice ground and clubhouse, and its history is closely linked to Niagara Parks’ broader effort to make golf part of the river corridor experience.
Did You Know? Niagara Parks describes Ussher’s Creek as a classic parkland course, but the course’s wetland hazards and fescue rough give that label a sharper edge than a gentle tree-lined layout might suggest. The visual contrast between thick forest, open fairway and low wet ground is the main architectural signature of the round.
