Overview: Stanley Thompson’s Le Château Montebello Golf Club occupies an 18-hole setting in the Québec village of Montebello. The fairways follow rolling hills and valleys through hardwood forest, with the current resort scorecard listing par 70 and 6,308 yards. The setting is more wooded and gently contoured than a coastal links, but Thompson’s routing still asks the golfer to choose lines carefully and use the natural movement of the land around the greens. It is part of the Fairmont resort but remains a distinct historic course.
History: The course was inaugurated in 1931 as a feature of the Seigneury Club. The property later became Château Montebello under Canadian Pacific Hotels, opening to the public as a resort in 1970. Stanley Thompson’s original connection remains central to the course’s identity, while the hardwood forest and old clubhouse preserve the relationship between golf and the wider Montebello estate. The current resort page supports the architect, opening year, par and yardage.
Did You Know? The course’s wooded landscape changes dramatically with the seasons, and the resort specifically highlights the hardwood forest’s autumn colour. The 18th-hole terrace also looks back over the course, giving the finish a visual connection to the clubhouse. Montebello’s golf history is consequently tied to both Thompson’s design and the resort’s older Seigneury Club heritage.
