Overview: Located on the Åland Islands in Finland, the Kungsbanan (King's Course) at Ålands Golfklubb is a highly scenic 18-hole parkland and woodland course designed by Jan Sederholm. Winding through dense pine forests and open, rolling meadows, the layout features tight fairways, natural rock outcroppings, and small, well-defended putting surfaces. The course demands precise ball placement off the tee and disciplined iron play to navigate the narrow forest corridors and numerous natural streams.
History: Opened in the early 1990s as the second 18-hole championship venue at the club, Kungsbanan was built to complement the older Slottsbanan course. Sederholm carefully integrated the routing into the rugged island topography, minimizing earth movement to preserve the historic agricultural landscape and the deep ravines.
Did You Know? The course is built on a highly protected, historic island estate that was once a royal hunting ground for the King of Sweden, providing a historic and majestic backdrop for the facility.
