Overview: Magnolia is an Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay layout at The Landings Club in Savannah, with 18 holes and a par of 72. The routing is known as a second-shot course, where the quality of the approach and the ability to manage undulating greens matter as much as the drive. Seven tee boxes allow the course to be played at different lengths, while water, bunkers and the low-country setting give the layout a distinctly coastal Georgia character.
History: The Landings christened Magnolia in 1977 as its second course, making it one of Arnold Palmer’s early design projects. A major renovation completed in 2001 improved playability, drainage and irrigation, rebuilt all 18 greens and reworked 63 bunkers, increasing total green area by roughly 20 percent. In 2021, Brandon Johnson of the Arnold Palmer Design Company led another renovation of all putting greens and the greenside and fairway bunkers. The course therefore carries Palmer and Seay’s original identity while reflecting two substantial modern updates.
Did You Know? Magnolia’s 16th includes Arnold Palmer’s signature beach bunker, a long narrow sand feature placed beside water with the green beyond it. The course is also recognised as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary, a designation that reflects The Landings’ broader stewardship of hardwood forests, salt marshes and tidal creeks. Those environmental details are part of the course’s setting and its daily identity, not just background scenery.
