Overview: The Gailes at Lakewood Shores is a public resort course in Oscoda, Michigan, inspired by Scotland’s seaside links. Kevin Aldridge shaped the routing with double greens, winding burns, revetted-style bunkering and long fescue, using the Lake Huron landscape to create a distinctly links-oriented experience.
History: Lakewood Shores grew from former farmland and a late-1960s golf community. Aldridge designed and built The Gailes as the resort’s Scottish-inspired centerpiece, and Golf Digest recognized it as the best new resort course in the United States in 1993.
Did You Know? The Gailes is currently undergoing clearing and restoration work intended to recover its original open links character. The project is aimed at bringing back sightlines and the rugged feel that defined the course at opening.
