Overview: Lakewood Country Club in Lakewood, Colorado, is a historic and highly exclusive private championship parkland course originally designed by Tom Bendelow and refined by the notable Donald Ross. Set beautifully on the rolling plains just west of Denver, this Golden Age classic features wide, tree-lined fairways, strategic sand traps, and Ross's signature complex green complexes. The layout offers private members a highly strategic and visually dramatic test of golf that is widely recognized as one of the oldest and most historic clubs in Colorado.
History: Founded in 1908, Lakewood Country Club has a rich golf tradition that dates back to the dawn of the game in America. The notable Donald Ross was hired in the 1910s to redesign and refine the course, utilizing the natural rolling topography and sandy soils to craft a layout that emphasizes strategic routing and precise approach play. The course has been meticulously preserved and was restored by the respected architect Gil Hanse in the 2000s to restore Ross's original design intent and historic bunkering styles.
Did You Know? The course is known for its signature par-4 18th hole, which requires a precise tee shot and a demanding approach over a scenic, natural pond to a green overlooked by the grand clubhouse.
