Overview: Lake Worth Beach Golf Club is an 18-hole public course along roughly 1.2 miles of the Intracoastal Waterway. The current municipal record lists par 71 and 6,011 yards, while the club describes a player-friendly old Florida design with mature banyans, indigenous trees, coastal breeze and varied doglegs. It is a compact waterfront layout whose setting is as important to its identity as its scorecard.
History: The City of Lake Worth approved a municipal course in the 1920s, with Langford and Moreau involved in the original design and H.H.C. Tippett supervising construction. Nine holes were in play by 1926. Dick Wilson redesigned those holes and added nine more, producing the completed 18-hole course that opened in 1948. The layout remains a municipal daily-fee facility more than a century after the first project began.
Did You Know? A large part of the site was created with fill dredged from Lake Worth. The Florida Historic Golf Trail records a contract for 400,000 cubic yards of lakefront fill, an engineering feat that helped create the narrow waterfront property on which the course sits.
