Overview: The identity of Lake Wood Golf Club Sun Park Akeno Course comes from the setting first: spreads across the Akeno side of Hokuto, a broad setting where large fairways are interrupted by ponds, bunkers and shaped greens. Theodore G. Robinson's 18-hole American-style design opened in 1991 and is listed at 6,835 yards and par 72.
History: Lake Wood Sun Park Akeno was opened in 1991. The official club calls Sun Park Akeno the first Japanese course to receive Robinson's American-style design treatment. Robinson is known internationally for Ko Olina in Hawaii, but the Yamanashi course is its own work, using the highland landscape and warm southern exposure to create an open, strategic resort layout.
Did You Know? The name is unusually literal. Water is not only scenery here: the scorecard shows ponds and lateral hazards placed at decision points, so a generous fairway can still demand a careful choice of line into the green. The Akeno course's blue-tee yardage is therefore not a resort shorthand; it is a full par-72 specification on a design credited to Theodore G. Robinson.
