Overview: Lake Venice Golf Club's First/Second pairing is an 18-hole combination within the club's 27-hole facility on Venice Island. The blue tees measure 6,636 yards at par 72, with broad fairways, bunkers and Gulf-influenced coastal surroundings. Mark Mahannah is credited with the original course, while the current scorecard record identifies the First/Second routing as one of the available 18-hole combinations.
History: Lake Venice was established in 1959 as the second course in Sarasota County. The club added a third nine in 1970, creating its current 27-hole format, and Jan Bel Jan redesigned that third nine and related facilities in 2013 after airport boundary changes affected the property. The First/Second pairing therefore combines the original 18-hole identity with the later three-nine structure.
Did You Know? Lake Venice hosted a sanctioned LPGA event in 1966 and 1967, with future Hall of Fame players Mickey Wright, Kathy Whitworth and Carol Mann among the field. The tournament history predates the 2013 redesign of the third nine.
