Overview: Lake Shore Country Club is a lakeside Rochester-area course whose official scorecard lists 18 holes, par 71 and 6,633 yards from the longest tees. The property offers three principal tee settings, with shorter white and blue options as well as the championship orange markers. Its parkland character comes through in tree-lined corridors, sloping ground, valleys and greens that reward control rather than simple distance. The water-side setting adds atmosphere, but the club’s own hole notes make clear that the course is built around precise approaches and difficult putting surfaces.
History: Lake Shore was built in 1932 and is a charter member of the Rochester District Golf Association as well as a founding member of the New York State Golf Association. Calvin O. Black is credited as the architect in the reviewed course record. The club has continued to update turf, bunkering and playing surfaces while retaining the structure of the original lakeside property. Its later history includes state and national qualifying events, senior championships and other regional competitions, giving the course a continuing role in Rochester golf beyond its club membership.
Did You Know? The official scorecard describes the 18th as a long par five protected by trees, out of bounds and sand around the green. It is a fitting finish for a course where the final approach can matter as much as the opening drive.
