Overview: Lake Karrinyup’s Composite entry refers to the club’s championship 18-hole layout, not the separate North Course. The current course winds through undulating coastal sand-dune ground, native vegetation and the lake that gives the club its name. From the championship tees it is listed at about 6,531 metres and par 72. Alex Russell’s strategic influence remains visible in the preferred lines into the greens, while later work has refined the presentation without removing the need to choose the correct side of a fairway.
History: A small group of enthusiasts developed the Karrinyup property in the late 1920s, and the championship course opened for play in July 1929. Alex Russell designed the original layout. The club later commissioned substantial work by Mike Clayton, including the 2007–08 restoration programme intended to bring the course closer to Russell’s strategic principles. The current 18-hole championship course coexists with a much shorter nine-hole North Course.
Did You Know? The lake is an active design feature rather than just a name. The club’s course tour explains how the strategic line can change with the hole location, and the eighth is remembered for a long par-three carry over the lake to a raised green.
