Overview: Lake Karrinyup Country Club's 18-hole course is a mature Western Australian parkland layout shaped by sandy ground, native vegetation and the water features that give the club its name. Alex Russell's design uses the site's natural movement to create a round of changing corridors rather than a repetitive resort grid. Tree lines frame many approaches, while the surrounding open space allows the wind and the scale of the property to remain part of the visual experience.
History: The club was incorporated in February 1928, and Alex Russell designed the course during the club's early development, with the first course opening recorded in 1929. The property later served a very different purpose when it was occupied by the WAAAF during the Second World War. Major course work in 2007, followed by further improvements in 2017 and 2018, modernised presentation while retaining Russell's historic foundation.
Did You Know? Lake Karrinyup's history is unusually visible in the contrast between its golf landscape and its wartime chapter. The same property that now carries championship fairways and mature trees was once occupied by the Women's Australian Auxiliary Air Force. That layer of use gives the club a story extending well beyond its role as a golf venue.
