Overview: The Mountain Course at La Quinta Resort is a public resort course located in La Quinta, California. Designed by Pete Dye, the course is built directly into the base of the Santa Rosa Mountains, featuring narrow fairways, dramatic rock outcroppings, and elevated tee boxes. The layout challenges players to navigate deep pot bunkers and quick greens that slope toward the valley floor.
History: Opened in 1980, the course was one of the first mountain layouts built in the Coachella Valley. Pete Dye worked with the natural topography to create a course that feels like it was carved directly from the rock. The course has hosted several major events, including the PGA Tour's Bob Hope Classic and the PGA Cup.
Did You Know? The par-3 16th hole is one of the most photographed holes in the desert, featuring a green that sits directly against a sheer rock wall. Players must hit a precise tee shot over a native desert wash to reach the small putting surface. Any shot that misses short or right will end up in the sand, while shots that are too long will bounce off the cliff.
