Overview: La Crosse Country Club is a private Arthur Hills course in Onalaska, Wisconsin, routed through two separate valleys in Emerald Valley. The 18-hole layout reaches 7,367 yards and uses the rolling Driftless Region ground to create changes in elevation, sight lines and approach angles. Ponds, open slopes and wooded edges appear in different combinations during the round, so the course's identity comes from the land's natural movement rather than from a single repeated hazard.
History: The club was founded in La Crosse in 1900 and moved to its current Onalaska site in 1994 after its earlier land arrangement ended. The new course was designed by Arthur Hills as part of the relocation, alongside a new clubhouse and wider club facilities. The move created a modern 18-hole layout while preserving the club's long local history. Official club material still presents the two-valley routing as the defining feature of the current course.
Did You Know? The course and the city share a name, but the modern course is not the original early-20th-century layout. The current Onalaska routing dates from the 1994 move, while the former La Crosse site later became Forest Hills, a public municipal course.
