Overview: The North Course at Omni La Costa Resort is a resort layout located in Carlsbad, California. Originally designed by Dick Wilson, the course features wide fairways, large bunkers, and strategic water hazards. Gil Hanse completed a major renovation in 2024, redesigning the greens and extending the yardage to 7,500 yards to create a tournament-grade test for collegiate championships. The updated routing tests all aspects of a player's strategic decision-making.
History: Opened in 1965, the course has hosted numerous long-established events, including the PGA Tour's Tournament of Champions and the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship. The 2024 Hanse renovation refreshed the routing, restoring the classic bunker styling and updating the grass types to improve turf quality and water conservation.
Did You Know? The 2024 renovation was specifically designed to prepare the course to host the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Golf Championships. The changes created a more spectator-friendly layout and modernized the strategic options to test the best amateur players in the nation. This represents a major milestone for the resort, cementing its status as a premier hub for amateur competition.
