Overview: La Cañada Flintridge Country Club is a private foothill course north of Los Angeles, where rolling ground, planted corridors and mountain air give the layout a settled parkland feel. The course is par 70 and dates to the early 1960s, with the property’s elevation changes doing more strategic work than a long scorecard would suggest.
History: Golf was first played at La Cañada in 1962. The club’s account credits Lawrence Hughes with the course, Bill Godbey and Johnny Dawson with important development roles, and Jack Simison with the clubhouse. Nearly two million cubic yards of earth were moved during construction, a reminder that the present landscape was deliberately shaped.
Did You Know? La Cañada’s clubhouse history is tied to the course’s construction story: the club identifies Jack Simison with the clubhouse while Hughes is credited with the golf design. Keeping those roles separate avoids reducing a large development project to a single name.
