Overview: The West Course at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club sits in the Bukit Kiara district of Malaysia’s capital. It is an 18-hole, par-72 parkland routing on gently undulating ground, with tropical vegetation, lakes, streams and heavily contoured greens shaping the strategic choices. The club’s hole guide repeatedly rewards placement: a drive may need to favour one side for the preferred approach, while a lake or bunker complex protects the next decision. The official club news page gives the renovated back-course distance as 6,405 metres, approximately 7,010 yards, and the current guide shows the West extending to a long par-five finish at the 18th.
History: Nelson & Haworth designed the original West Course, which opened for play in 1991. After the West hosted the Malaysian Open in 2006, the layout was extensively reconstructed by Ted Parslow and Jason Winter of Parslow & Winter Golf Design; Top100GolfCourses records the redesign as an 18-month project that reopened in October 2008. The club later carried out further renovation work in 2007 and 2017, with a major reopening in August 2018 noted in its own tournament history. The profile therefore treats 1991 as the course’s opening date and the Parslow & Winter work as a substantial reconstruction, not as the creation of a separate course.
Did You Know? Water is part of the West Course’s routing on thirteen holes according to the course’s ranking page. The official hole guide illustrates how that works: ponds, lakes, a stream and a waterfall can change the safest line from one hole location to the next, including the split-fairway strategy on the par-four 17th.
