Overview: Reopened in 2021 after a complete redesign, the Åhus Västra (West) Course at Kristianstads Golfklubb is built on the same sandy subsoil as its sister course, Åhus Östra. Architects Pierre Fulke and Adam Mednickson reshaped the layout to draw inspiration from Muirfield, creating a looping routing where the wind direction changes on almost every hole. The course features rumpled fairways, native sandy waste areas, and challenging green complex run-offs.
History: The West Course originally opened in 2006, designed by Rolf Collijn and Tommy Nordström to expand the historic 1924 club's facilities. Recognizing the potential of the sandy ground, the club hired Pierre Fulke and Adam Mednickson to rebuild the layout, which officially re-opened in 2021 to critical acclaim.
Did You Know? The West Course layout features a distinct routing similar to Muirfield, with the front nine forming an outer loop that circles clockwise, while the back nine forms an inner loop that runs counter-clockwise. This ensures that players face different wind directions throughout their round.
