Overview: Kovai Hills Golf and Country Club is a destination-led course near Perur, about 15 kilometres from Coimbatore and on the road toward Palakkad. Current course records describe an 18-hole, par-72 parkland layout designed by David Hemstock, with the black tees measuring 7,020 yards. It forms part of a larger golf-centric township in the foothills of the Western Ghats, giving the course a broader leisure setting than a stand-alone city club. The layout's identity is built around changing ground, water and the wind that moves through this part of Tamil Nadu.
History: The available course records place the current Kovai Hills course in the 2014 period, although an older India destination guide attributes the design work to 2009. That difference is retained as a date distinction rather than hidden: 2014 is used here as the current published opening marker. David Hemstock is consistently credited as the designer. The course was planned as part of the wider Kovai Hills development, which also included a golf academy and other leisure facilities. Its development therefore reflects the growth of Coimbatore as a weekend and business destination, with golf positioned alongside the region's mountain, wildlife and plantation attractions.
Did You Know? Published course material highlights six water bodies and 66 hazards, while the 18-hole card shows a full par-72 route with a long par-five eighth and several strategic water carries. The surrounding Western Ghats also make wind a meaningful variable: the same hole can ask a different question when the air moves across the open ground and changes the effective distance.
