Overview: Korineum Golf & Beach Resort is an 18-hole, par-72 course in Esentepe, North Cyprus. The official course page lists 6,232 metres, approximately 6,815 yards, and credits David Hemstock as designer with Peter Harradine as project consultant. The course occupies 65 hectares of natural olive and carob scrubland between the Five Finger Mountains and the Mediterranean. Undulating fairways, strategically placed bunkers and two lakes create a route in which mountain and coastal views remain part of the playing experience.
History: Korineum’s official history says the site was selected in the 1990s, construction began in 2004 and the project was completed at the end of 2006. The golf course and club then held their grand opening in April 2007, the date used for the current routing. That sequence is more useful than a simple development date because it separates the land-selection period, construction phase and the point at which the 18-hole course became an operating destination.
Did You Know? Korineum’s fifth hole is presented by the operator as its signature hole. It plays through olive, carob and pine trees with the Beşparmak mountain range behind the golfer, while the course lake enters the view beside the fairway. The result is a hole defined as much by its setting as by its strategy, and a concise example of why the resort is associated with both mountain and sea scenery.
